WELCOME I will bring to Congress a real commitment to solutions, a capacity to lead, and a dedication to principled government. As you learn more about me, please keep in mind that I believe in the boundless capabilities of the American people, constitutional limits on the power of all branches of the Federal government, and the oversight responsibility of Congress. Starting with my campaign and continuing through my service, I pledge to answer questions directly and honestly. My goal is to make this the most informative candidate website of the Republican Primary and General Election. There should be no doubt about my policy stances since I have written every policy on this site myself in first person. I want you to know me as a candidate with principles, to know what those principles are, and how they apply to my public policy positions.  ..............................................

Liberty, Justice and Security 

Liberty, justice and security:   I am dedicated to these principles, so soundly defined by this nation's founders. I refuse to trade a special interest's vision of "fairness" for our society's justice. I refuse to offer target voting groups false promises of "opportunity" at the expense of true economic security. I refuse to play on the false fears of citizens and sacrifice liberty.

Throughout history women and men have laid down their lives to secure the blessings of liberty, establish justice, and ensure security.  Many liberal Democrats of today would have you think these are American values, not to be "imposed" on other societies. Moderates would have you believe these take on various forms depending on cultural mores, and strive to "respect" foreign societies in which one gender or group is not as entitled to the same liberty as another. As a conservative I believe it is self-evident that these universal principles are part and parcel of our shared humanity; that liberty, justice and security are birth rights of Americans, Australians, Israelis, Turks, Iraqis, men, women... The poor child in Baltimore, the retired CEO in Annapolis, the working parent of three in Columbia, and the middle class family in Towson truly are equal.

The focus of leadership in 2008 and for the next decade should be to:

• Right the wrongs of the past by providing true equality of liberties for all our citizens,
• Provide an effective justice system that equally protects individual liberties and civil security, and
• Find long term, sustainable solutions for national security, economic security and energy security.

No individual can do this alone; yet no solutions will come unless at least one person acts. I am ready to be your representative, to begin to lead the effort to really solve our collective challenges in 2008 and beyond. Our world and nation are never static, our society constantly changes; we have a choice to lead and change for the better, or suffer the changes wrought by others.

As for me, I choose to act; I seek to lead. I ask for your support in the knowledge that my appreciation will never be confused with indebtedness. I ask you to always hold me to our common principles -- freedom, justice and security.                                          

Why I am asking for your support:   "It is not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work -- work with us, not over us; stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it. This Administration's objective will be a healthy, vigorous, growing economy. " Ronald Reagan, January 20, 1981 (from his first inaugural address)   As a community, state and nation  we need to solve our common economic and energy problems. The economy must be expanded by supporting business development and reducing tax rates. The nation's energy supply must be secured by expanding domestic oil and coal production in the near term and moving to modern nuclear fission and fusion technology in the long term.  I have the technical acumen, education and experience to lead this effort to the ultimate goals of energy security and economic expansion. In the arena of international affairs and national security we must choose to either emulate the U.S. leadership of the post-World War II era or we will repeat the failures of the 1970's. I don't want to relive the 1970's in any way.  I have the military and intelligence experience to work  with the executive branch to secure the nation, not against it to the benefit of our adversaries. As for social policy, as a conservative I believe when people earn a good income they can make choices for health care, afford housing, and participate in their children's education.  The best government programs are those that encourage people to be active consumers of quality services.  As an example, low income parents should be given tax credits for purchasing the health insurance they choose for children; the government shouldn't choose the children's health insurance and pay for it. Violent and drug-related crimes are destroying Baltimore; but the O'Malley-era mass arrests are not the American answer.  Improved criminal intelligence and apprehending wanted criminals are the key areas to improve policing.  Putting away unreformed career criminals is the challenge for the justice system.  Unlike the former mayor of Baltimore, I can't condone trading civil liberties for security.   I am an aerospace engineer by education, served as a USAF officer for twelve years, and I have lived in Maryland for ten years working in the aerospace and intelligence sector. I want a secure and prosperous nation for my family and all my constituents. It really is that simple for me .
