Biography
Paul Spause took his first federal oath of office as a freshman entering into AFROTC at Penn State in 1981. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Paul took advantage of the opportunities afforded to him by his parents' sacrifices in sending him to Parochial grade school and high school. He was a dedicated high school student and athlete, participating in indoor and outdoor track for four years graduating with a scholar-athlete award, earning a first-team All-Catholic Mathlete honor, graduating at the top of his high school class and starting college with the equivalent of four college courses completed.
While declining other academic offers and scholarships, Paul chose to pursue an Aerospace Engineering degree and commit to serving his nation as a military officer. After graduating in 1985, Paul proved himself in engineering and leadership roles throughout the next 12 years. After additional training, Paul was assigned to Vandenberg AFB in California as a space launch engineer for nine Titan space launch missions. He distinguished himself in technical ability, program management and leadership under stressful and dangerous conditions. His last assignment was as a military technical intelligence analyst at the National Air Intelligence Center (now the National Air and Space Intelligence Center). Paul's area of expertise was worldwide ballistic missile technology, including threat nations of Libya, Iran, Iraq and North Korea.
Paul left the Air Force in December 1997 to settle in Maryland with his wife Sherry and son Matt. Since moving to Maryland the Spause family has added a son, Scott and daughter, Jordan. All the Spause children are enrolled in Howard County public schools.
While working for a private engineering company in Bowie, Maryland, Paul has participated in many high technology projects that only the Washington-Baltimore corridor can offer. Paul has a broad academic and technical background, with experience in emergency preparedness, program management, software development, toxic chemical spill response, WMD proliferation controls and inspections, intelligence analysis, nuclear energy, power grid operations, and, of course, space missions.
